A lonely beauty, a handsome drifter When her father abandons her on their new Montana homestead, Kit Chapman is left with nothing but her skills with horses and an idea for a way to hold onto her land. When she hires wrangler Dakota Black, she isn’t prepared for the attraction she feels for the self-professed drifter who has no need for emotional ties. Dakota Black is powerfully drawn to Kit from the moment he sets eyes on her. She may be beautiful and courageous to a fault, yet it is her way with horses that captures his heart. Can this drifter leave his past behind and place his trust in the woman who might be his one chance for true love?

How does one get on with life when life keeps following you around? Dakota Black spent time in prison for a gruesome, unforgivable crime he did not commit. Although he was innocent, even his own parents did not believe him to be so. He won his freedom by fighting as a front line soldier in the war. Now he walks from place to place trying to find a new home.

From the moment he first saved her life, Dakota finds himself enamored with Kit Chapman. Even with her disguise as a man, mustache and all, he isn't fooled. At every turn trouble is finding her and he is soon standing beside her as her protector, hired hand and friend. Everyone calls him Outlaw because he looks like one, but Kit sees past the outer appearance as she watches him work with the horses and sees who he really is. When his past catches up with him once again she has a hard time believing it to be so because of the man she has seen and fallen in love with.

JIllian Hart has once again created characters that are easy to love (or hate). I loved the teasing between Dakota and Kit and hated to see the story end. She makes me wish I lived in another place and time.

The fake mustache however is on our heroine! Abandon by her card shark father, Kit tries to keep her brother and sister sheltered and fed but soon finds she will lose all. Desperate to keep their homestead and her horses, she turns to the only thing her father left to her, the knowledge of how to play poker. Donning her fake mustache and mens' clothing, she starts for town. She doesn't fool anyone, especially the dusty ex-con Dakota Black. Again all isn't as it seems and Kit finds herself falling for the cowboy she hires to help out. The Wrangler is an enjoyable read and one that will leave you feeling as though the story could go on and on.
If you like this kind of thing, you'll enjoy it. A little bit to light and cheesy for me, but still had a reasonable storyline. I finished it - which I all to often don't with this kind of book.
Love this
Loved the book
The author tells a terrific story. The h/h both have intense, but fun loving personalities. I was truly happy when they fell in love. Reading as the couple created a home and future together was beautiful and so romantic. Loved that!

The story had plenty of conflict from a villain character who tried to cause them harm. This alone would have been enough of a struggle to keep the story interesting. Unfortunately, right near the end of the story, the author threw in a wrench that was totally unnecessary. I'm always really annoyed when conflict is added just for the sake of giving a tragic twist to the romance. When a problem can be cleared up with no more than a few words between the characters, but the characters just don't bother to speak, it hits me as a desperate attempt to add emotion. This story has emotion in spades. The silly conflict at the end was just nonsensical.

Still, the book is a great read. Highly recommended.
I finished reading The Wrangler the other day. It's a beautiful and wonderful story. I loved the characters, Kit and Dakota. I think what I loved best, though, was how Jillian brought out the importance of judging people by their heart, and not by rumors, or their past. That's a quality that you just don't see too often in today's world.
Take me away from the reality of this sad world in which we live. I just love happy endings. Always.
